TAMPA -- Ryan Homes will soon begin selling homes in the Tampa Bay area, with new communities in St. Petersburg, Seminole, and Palm Harbor.

Ryan, part of Reston, Va.-based NVR Inc., is the second homebuilder to announce its debut in the Tampa Bay market in two days, after Phoenix-based Meritage Homes said it would do so yesterday.

NVR is much larger than Meritage, with more than $3 billion in revenues in 2010. The Virginia firm has also done a better job of staying profitable recently, with more than $620 million in operating income since 2009. Meritage posted more than $150 million in operating losses over the past two years.

Ryan's St. Petersburg community is called Bay Isle; its Seminole development is Hidden Bayou; and its Palm Harbor community is Tarpon Ridge. Villa homes and townhomes are being offered starting in the $150,000s, the firm says.

Ryan Homes, NVHomes, Rymarc Homes and Fox Ridge Homes are all business units of NVR. Those segments' combined operations reach 27 metro markets, in 15 states.
