The Roskamp Institute, the nationally known-Alzheimer's disease research facility, has announced the enrollment of three students in its long-awaited new Ph. D. program in neuroscience. The first three students in the program, which will offer extensive laboratory-based research, will specialize in the study of Alzheimer's disease, Gulf War Syndrome and traumatic brain injuries.
The program has a two-tier application process: If the student is first accepted to the Roskamp Institute, he or she must then apply to the United Kingdom's Open University, which is affiliated with the institute. Currently, there are four other students going through the application process.
Dr. Fiona Crawford, the associated director of the institute, set the target enrollment for the school around 20 students. The institute has also been approved to build student housing which, officials hope could happen in the next few years. “Roskamp has always played a significant role in training and mentoring top quality students,” says Crawford, “and we are delighted to now have a formal degree-awarding program.”
