Airport traffic soars in October

While passenger traffic remains off for the year, air freight at Southwest Florida International Airport is doing well, comparatively.

FORT MYERS — Airport traffic at Southwest Florida International Airport increased by nearly 65% in October over September, but remains well off its pace from 2019.

Overall, 417,305 passengers traveled through the airport in Fort Myers in October, according to a statement. That’s up 63.1% from the previous month, but down 34.7% from October 2019.

The traffic leader in October was American Airlines with 91,020 total passengers. Rounding out the top five airlines, the release states, were Southwest (84,225), Delta (68,830), United (50,131) and JetBlue (44,011).
Air freight for the year, meanwhile, is currently up 1.4%. In October, 3,516,841 pounds of air freight were carried through the airport, the release states, a record-breaking number for that month.

Southwest Florida International Airport served more than 10.2 million passengers in 2019 and is one of the top 50 U.S. airports for passenger traffic.
