Airport traffic down in April

Year-to-date passengers up 5.2%.

FORT MYERS — Southwest International Airport in Fort Myers reported 939,957 passengers passed through the terminal in April, a 9% decline compared to April 2017. The airport is ranked among the top 50 in the United States for passenger traffic.

Year-to-date, however, passenger traffic represents a 5.2% increase over the same period last year.

Delta Airlines recorded the most passengers this past April with 194,114 traveling to and from Fort Myers. Delta was followed by Southwest Airlines at 182,003, American with 135,119, JetBlue with 130,437 and United with 105,034.  

In April 2018, the airport saw 8,049 aircraft operations, a decrease of 13.8% compared to April 2017. Air freight activity increased, however, with nearly 2.6 million pounds moving through Southwest Florida International last month. 

Southwest Florida International served more than 8.8 million passengers in 2017.
