PUNTA GORDA — Through July 2018, Punta Gorda Airport (PGD) surpassed the one million-passenger threshold, bringing to six million the number of passengers who have traveled through the airport since commercial service began in 2007, according to a statement.

In July 2018, PGD served 73,721 departing passengers and 71,705 arriving passengers. The 145,426 total passenger figure represents a 24.5% increase in passenger traffic for July 2018 compared to July 2017, which saw 116,799 passengers.

“This is another milestone for PGD, and it demonstrates the success of our low-cost airport model,” says PGD CEO James Parish in the statement. “We strive for continued improvements in customer service, logistics and efficiencies all while keeping costs low so Allegiant can pass savings down to their customers.”

Punta Gorda Airport is Allegiant’s fourth-largest airport operation with six to nine Airbus A320s stationed on site, varying seasonally. Airport officials predict the 2018 passenger count will total nearly 1.5 million by the end of December, the release adds.

In addition to its growing commercial airline service, PGD is home to 400 general aviation aircraft, flight schools and dozens of aviation and non-aviation businesses. The airport is owned and operated by the Charlotte County Airport Authority.
