PUNTA GORDA — Low-cost airline leader Allegiant continues to add nonstop routes in the region. The latest: Service to Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport (SAV) from Punta Gorda Airport (PGD)

The flights begin June 6, according to a statement, and will operate twice weekly.

“We are thrilled to bring new service to a popular Allegiant destination to the residents of Charlotte County,” Allegiant vice president of planning and revenue Drew Wells says in the statement. “We know area travelers will enjoy the historic charm of Savannah and the beaches of Hilton Head, and our convenient, ultra-low-cost service makes getting there a breeze.”

Allegiant has rapidly expanded its routes from Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport, and also has a large presence at Clearwater-St. Petersburg International Airport.

“Adding Savannah to Allegiant’s growing list routes at PGD is exciting news (for) our local community,” Punta Gorda Airport CEO James Parish says in the statement. “It will be a convenient route for both Southwest Floridians and Georgians to explore each area’s coastal beaches, outdoor activities and historic communities.”
