Airport closes out year down more than 40% in passengers

Traffic at Page Field remains a bright spot.

FORT MYERS — Southwest Florida International Airport continues to climb back from pandemic passenger traffic lows, but remains off from the monthly counts prior to the crisis.  

In December, 648,011 passengers traveled through the Fort Myers airport —a decrease of 39.9% compared to December 2019. That was up 29.5%, however, from November 2020. Year-end passenger traffic was 5,978,414 passengers, a decrease of 41.5% compared to 2019, according to a statement.

The traffic leader in December was Southwest Airlines with 137,349 total passengers. Rounding out the top five airlines were Delta (108,846), United (94,968), American (80,042) and Spirit (78,883).

Private traffic remains a bright spot, with 10,875 operations at Page Field saw, a 9.6% increase compared to December 2019.

Southwest Florida International Airport is one of the top 50 U.S. airports for passenger traffic.
