Lee Health rated among Forbes 2018 America’s Best Employers for Women.
As the national debate simmers over gender and opportunity inequality, some companies are being celebrated for getting it right. And three employers on the west coast of Florida — all hospitals — are ranked among the top 100 in the country for being the most fair to the fairer gender.
That's according to Forbes’ 2018 America’s Best Employers for Women list. Clearwater-based hospital giant BayCare is ranked No. 4 on the list, while Tampa General Hospital is No. 48 and Lee Health is No. 86. (Online shopping retailer HSN, acquired by Qurate Retail Group, formerly QVC, in late 2017 and previously based in St. Petersburg, is No. 68.)
The list, in total, ranked 300 companies. Forbes, to compile the list, partnered with market research company Statista, which surveyed 40,000 Americans, including 25,000 women, working for businesses with at least 1,000 employees.
Lee Health employs about 3,000 people, Tampa General has about 7.300 employees and BayCare's payroll surpasses 25,000.
Survey respondents were first asked to rate their organizations on criteria such as working conditions, diversity and how likely they'd be to recommend their employer to others. These responses were reviewed for potential gender gaps. Statistia then asked female respondents to rate their employers on factors such as parental leave, discrimination and pay equity.
Employees were also asked to nominate organizations in industries outside their own. The list ranks employers that both received the most recommendations and boast the most gender diverse boards and executive ranks.
