Name one pressing issue affecting our region today:Attracting young professionals (executives, attorneys, doctors, etc.) to our region.

How would you solve it? Industries that need young professionals could work with local governments, local Chambers of Commerce and the Southwest Florida Economic Development Council to promote our region's beauty and economic opportunities at premier universities and graduate programs; local businesses and banks could provide mortgage assistance (whether through guaranties or lower interest rates) to young professionals and/or help them with student loan consolidation and forgiveness; local governments or businesses could offer subsidies to young professionals for their air travel, as the short vacation windows of young professionals make driving anywhere outside of Florida so difficult; local businesses could raise starting salaries.

Name one pressing issue affecting our region today:Affordable housing.

How would you solve it? There is no easy fix. Large employers need to be involved in the discussion. I would encourage the legislature to figure out a compromise on the portability of property taxes. Jeff Verkon

Tampa

Company/Title: IT Resources Corp/president and CEO

Education: B.S. Florida State University; MBA Webster University

Professional achievements/honors: I gauge my success on how well my troops and current employees perform. My greatest honor was when one of my former military troop's wife called four years after leaving the military and told me her husband would not have been the true professional soldier, honorable husband and wonderful father he is today without my guidance and leadership. Something like this, which no one else heard, actually means more to me than professional awards given.

Mentor or business hero: John West; former CEO of SystemOne and current CEO of Acclaris.

Formula for success: The formula for success that I put into place is to have a vision and clearly define each vision with goals. While in the military, I was always told to know your troops' job, but when going into the field be certain that your troops are the experts at what they do. Most importantly, I know I cannot be successful without spending time with God and in prayer asking for his guidance.

Hometown: Tampa.
