A Sarasota-based tape and packaging company has earned recognition for achieving zero waste at one of its plants. Intertape Polymer Group was given the TRUE Zero Waste Certification by the Green Business Certification Inc. for work at its plant in Danville, Virginia.
The Green Business Certification uses the Total Resource Use and Efficiency rating system to measure sustainable waste reduction practices. It requires companies to meet seven criteria, including diverting at least 90% of waste from landfills over the course of a year and reducing, reusing, recycling or composting the material.
By implementing a number of recycling initiatives, the IPG facility in Virginia was able to divert 97.5% of its waste, according to a statement from IPG. In 2023, the plant diverted 16 million pounds of material from landfills, mostly through recycling, the statement says.
